It's the ordinary stuff that really fills our hearts. And through your photos, we'll show you the real beauty of your everyday life. And we think that’s pretty magical.

I was born in the country and have raised my kids in the country. So when I say we have a “no firecrackers inside the house” rule, you can believe that comes from explosive experience. I’m the more-prone-to-swearing side of Hobbs Photo, and I also convinced Jenna to build our cozy studio on my rural property. So if you can’t find me, go check The Grain Shed studio—I might be in there with a fresh mug of matcha and a blanket, ready to curl up for a quick nap.

"I’m Type A at heart… though having five kids has forced me away from that. I never thought I’d be Mom to so many, and I think about that often. Like when I see them all around our kitchen table laughing or when I'm hiding in my SUV. I grew up in town, so raising my wildlings in the country means I get to be a kid again, too. It’s a lot of barefoot, egg-collecting, hay bale-jumping. I’m the Get Things Done side of Hobbs Photo, but Aimee keeps me from being too much of a worrier."

We found this career together, a bit by accident.

We’re two free-spirited, farm girl mamas — and sisters-by-law — who picked up cameras to document our lives with young kids. But as we both learned more, we realized there was something poignant about true documentary photography. We refined our craft, and soon friends were asking us to photograph their families.

Then, friends of friends. Then years went by of us photographing clients, or what we call new friends.

As the years of making photos for new friends went on we decided to give back, by offering education within our local community, then to an international audience. From seeing students find that creative spark to pick up their camera to having their artwork showcased in galleries, it has truly been one of the most rewarding parts of this business.

From our own homes, to our brand and business we value real life photos and real life folks and we hope you'll see that in our work.

Choosing documentary photography takes a little leap of faith.

You have to trust that when you strip away the posing, coordinated outfits, and carefully planned location … your life is worth documenting.

Trust this: It is.
